The U of A DataLab wrapped up its Spring 2025 semester after delivering a full slate of workshops and meetups focused on equipping researchers with practical skills in AI and data science. With over 376 participants throughout the semester, the U of A DataLab continues to demonstrate its value as a resource for researchers looking to integrate advanced computational tools into their work and research.

Led by instructors from the Data Science Institute, CyVerse, and campus partners including Michele Cosi, Jeff Gillan, Nick Eddy, Carlos Lizárraga, Enrique Noriega Atala, Mithün Paul, and Megh Krishnaswamy.  This semester’s sessions addressed core areas such as Generative AI, Natural Language Processing, Classical Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Genomics, and Open Science tools for AI/ML. The high attendance numbers in key workshops—such as 62 participants in the Functional Open Science Skills for AI/ML Applications session and 52 in Classical Machine Learning—demonstrate the campus-wide need for applied, research-focused training in these areas.

Beyond the numbers, these sessions helped researchers and students stay current with rapidly evolving technologies to solve complex problems using AI and data science. With structured instruction, live demonstrations, and opportunities to engage with experts, the workshops help the learners understand not just how tools function, but how they can be adapted and applied to specific research questions. The consistent format of weekly sessions also builds momentum across the semester, supporting both entry-level learning and deeper technical exploration.

Recordings from Spring 2025 sessions are available on t the UArizona DataLab YouTube channel which makes it easy to revisit content and for new learners to access the material on demand.

As the semester concludes, the U of A DataLab remains a key contributor to the research infrastructure at the U of A. It strengthens the ability of students, faculty, and staff to approach research with the computational and analytical tools necessary for data-driven inquiry. Looking ahead to Fall 2025, the U of A DataLab will continue with a renewed schedule of workshops, Meetups, and personalized 1:1 consults to further expand access to AI and data science across the U of A campus.
